The Sun Style of tai chi is gentle on challenged joints while imparting a sense of calm and peace. Each session includes warm-ups, flow of routine, detailed practice of new movement,  then cool downs. Sun Style tai chi focuses more on breathing than any other tai chi system which means we breathe better by practicing it. While tai chi is a martial art practiced in slow motion, these classes emphasize health, not fighting applications. Most of us want to feel our best, not fight. 😉.

Tai chi imparts numerous health benefits. Some of these include: improved balance, coordination and agility; better focus and decision-making; reducation of chronic pain;  boosts immune functions; reduces the effects of stress; significantly enhances self-esteem and body image; balances blood pressure and cardiovascular functions; more core strength and flexibility; a sense of calm and belonging in the world.

Traditional Sun 73 Tai Chi takes participants deep into a long, flowing routine that imparts a sense of lightness, strength and agility while creating better balance and mindfulness.  Because learning a long tai chi form requires more dedicated practice time,

2 SESSIONS/WEEK:

WEDNESDAYS 6:30-7:45PM -- We meet outside the rec center and vote on "indoors or outdoors" If you arrive late and we are not inside the building, then we voted to go "outdoors" on the north side of the lake by the gazebo and picnic tables

SATURDAYS 9:30-11:00 AM -- We meet outside by the gazebo and picnic tables on the north side of the lake; opposite side of the lake from the playground

Instructor is there regardless of weather, most likely in a sheltered gazebo if raining so you don't have to miss class just because of rain!  If you don't like the weather, then stay home and come next time ;)

Some participants like the optional online video course that is also available to make learning tai chi easier. Available as a one-time purchase HERE and as part of the $7.99/mo Video Memberhsip that gives access to the ENTIRE Beachside Qigong & Tai Chi video library.  You can check that out HERE.  This is optional, not requried ;)

$15/class payable online here or at class via cash, Venmo & Zelle. Or for $75/mo become an unlimited Class Member--access every class on the regular schedule + INCLUDES VIDEO MEMBERSHIP and access to the online course. CLASS MEMBERSHIP HERE.

At about 150 years old, Sun Style tai chi is the most modern incarnation of the moving mediation called tai chi or tai chi chuan. It was developed by undefeated martial arts master Sun Lu Tang who was known to possess great energy skills. Unlike the other 4 traditional styles of tai chi, Sun Style places emphasis on awareness of breath throughout the entire practice. This emphasis on dan tien breathing brings more energy/chi into the flow which is built upon the agile stepping techniques found in BaGua Zhan.

Master Sun Lu Tang also built the tai chi routine to develop a lightness of being into the practitioner.  The high stance of the routine, the softness of the steps and the use of dan tien breathing all combine in a particular alchemy that gives Sun Style tai chi practitioners the ability to seemingly float on their feet while also remaining solidly grounded. Sun Style tai chi is so highly refined that the Sun 73 tai chi routine is used in Olympic competition over other styles of tai chi.

To learn more about Sun Style, Master Sun Lu Tang and why I choose to teach Sun style over all the other styles of tai chi I've studied through the decades, check out this blog post: Sun Style-The Evolution of Tai Chi.
